EVENINGS OF DANCE FILMS - ACCOMPANYING PROGRAMME OF THE BRATISLAVA IN MOVEMENT 2023 FESTIVAL

A programme for the Bratislava in Movement festival has been curated by the Prague Dance Film Festival (FTF) and will present a selection of top dance films in two screenings.
The first evening will feature a documentary in which Alain Platel and Mirjam Devriendt pay tribute to art, but also to humanity, which seems to always be balancing between creating something spectacularly beautiful or horribly cruel.
In the second evening, FTF will present a selection of the best films of the past few years in the genre dance for camera! We will show unique stage footages, dreamy and action-packed dance films awarded at festivals.
Founded in 2009, the Dance Film Festival is a biennial focused on the presentation of dance films, from dance documentaries to innovative recordings of dance pieces and, most importantly, the genre of dance for camera. The festival is a presenting and producing body and an institution to support the creation of dance films. In 2021, the festival launched its education platform FTF EDU.

The creation of this remarkable documentary was inspired by a scene from the production Nicht Schlafen (2016) by Les ballets C de la B, which raised the question "why is there so much senseless violence?" So far the dancers Bérengrère Bodin, Samir M´Kirech and TK
Russell agree, when you ask them: why are we fighting? Based on their personal experiences, they look for the why of violence around them in the world, but also the violence in themselves. How do you deal with fear, frustration and disappointment in today´s world, where you feel unheard or misunderstood? Is it at all possible to act in a non-violent way? Or is that privilege reserved for those who create dance, music, art or words?
With their film Why We Fight? Alain Platel and Mirjam Devriendt pay tribute to the arts, but also to humanity, that always seems to balance between creating something spectacularly beautiful or horribly cruel.
