International Theatre Festival Divadelná Nitra is currently the biggest theatre festival in Slovakia and one of the most significant international events happening in the country in the culture sphere. It is a selection-based, non-competitive showcase of European performing arts, with an emphasis on drama and diverse innovative forms of scenic art, characterized by crossing the boundaries of genre and style.
Aiming to be open and wide-ranging, the Festival offers a set of multi-disciplinary accompanying events, such as: theatre, film, visual arts, design, music, and art in public spaces. It also encourages public discourse, informal education and volunteer activities.
From 22 to 26 September 2017 will be held the 26th festival with the theme FUNDAMENTALS.
We live in the world of extremes, in the world, in which there is too much desire of success and enjoyment, too much egotism, aggression, xenophobia, and too many words, velocity, noise and smog. But too little justice, respect to the person, humility and love. What are the fundamental existential and social values? During the International Festival Divadelná Nitra 2017 we will pay our attention to „other destinies“ – easy and sophisticated lives of people, who show an indomitable will, a strong belief, an effort not to give up, a desire to stand up and go further. Such incredible destinies will be, of course, presented by European and home theatres.
