After 27 years, the continental wrestling championship is returning to Slovakia!

The last time it was held was in the spring of 1998 at the Pasienky Hall in Bratislava. From April 7 to 13, 2025, nearly a thousand of the best wrestlers from Europe will compete in Šamorín. The competition will include freestyle, Greco-Roman style, and women’s freestyle wrestling.

The European Wrestling Championships Bratislava/Šamorín provide a great opportunity for young Slovak wrestlers to make their mark in senior competition right at home.

The responsibility for the home European Championships in Šamorín will be shouldered by four-time European champion and Slovakia‘s best wrestler today, Tajmuraz Salkazanov. From 2021 to 2024, he remained unbeaten in the European Wrestling Championships in the 74 kg freestyle category.

Freestyle wrestler Adam Jakšík made his mark last year at the World U20 Championships in Pontevedra, winning a bronze medal in the 97 kg category.

19-year-old wrestler Lara Görcsová from Dunajská Streda placed seventh last year at the U20 European Championships in the 57 kg category.

Slovak wrestler Zsuzsanna Molnárová won a silver medal at the U23 European Championships in Bucharest in the 68 kg weight category.

The stands will also be graced by Slovak wrestler of the 20th century, world champion, and Olympic medalist Jozef Lohyňa, who has earned 5 medals from European Championships silver and 4 bronze. His most recent bronze medal was won in 1998, right here in Bratislava.
