Meeting of the world´s greatest minds
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only those who have been fully vaccinated can attend the event.
In a meeting of some of the world’s greatest minds in the heart of Europe, Professor Kip Thorne,
physics legend, Nobel Prize Laureate, scientific director of the Hollywood blockbuster movie
Interstellar and alum of the Big Bang Theory and Professor Brian Cox CBE, famous physicist and
professor of particle physics at The University of Manchester, are taking part in a discussion on “Is
Science the Solution to Everything?“. The professors will talk about the role of science in protecting
and advancing humankind and creating a sustainable, technology-led world.
The discussion will be held on October 12, 2021 at 18.00 in the historical Slovak national theatre
building on Hviezdoslavovo square. Beside the ticket, you can buy a book The Science of Interstellar
to pick up and get signed by Prof. Thorne during the event. The offer is limited.
Program:
18.00 – 18.45 discussion Is Science the Solution to Everything
18.45 – 19.30 Q&A
19.30 – 20.00 Professor Kip Thorne´s autograph session
Prof. Kip Thorne
Kip Thorne is an American physicist, Nobel Prize winner and internationally known expert in
gravitational physics and astrophysics, focusing on relativistic stars, black holes and gravitational
waves. He is also known as a scientific director of the Hollywood blockbuster Interstellar and alumni
of the Big Bang Theory.
Prof. Brian Cox
Brian Edward Cox is a British physicist, scientific populariser and former musician. He is Professor of
Particle Physics at the University of Manchester as well as Professor of Public Engagement in Science
for The Royal Society. He is also known for his documentary work for BBC.
About The Science of Interstellar
Interstellar, from acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan, takes us on a fantastic voyage far beyond
our solar system. Yet in The Science of Interstellar, Kip Thorne, the Nobel prize-winning physicist who
assisted Nolan on the scientific aspects of Interstellar, shows us that the movie’s jaw-dropping events
and stunning, never-before-attempted visuals are grounded in real science. In chapters on
wormholes, black holes, interstellar travel, and much more, Thorne’s scientific insights describe the
physical laws that govern our universe and the truly astounding phenomena that those laws make
possible.
The discussion is organised by the ESET Foundation and ESET.
Partners of discussion – Martinus and Slido.
